Living in Wawota
Community and Health Programs
Progress through perseverance
This friendly, active community is known for its culture, sporting, concert events and dinner theatre.
Wawota is situated on the edge of the Little Pipestone Valley, a natural recreation area, currently utilized for nature trails and hiking in the summer. Residents enjoy snowmobiling, tobogganing, and cross-country skiing during the winter.
Wawota is actually derived from an Indian word meaning, "deep snow." The town upholds its motto: "Progress through perseverance" because it had the potential of becoming a ghost town 30 years ago with the loss of the town's railroad. Despite the loss, the strength of the community and their dedication to the town has made Wawota grow and progress to what it is today. It has attracted many to its community hospital, special care home, historical parks and museum, and casino.
Pharmacy services are available in the community.
Population: 538.
