Arcola Emergency Services Suspended

Sun Country Regional Health Authority regretfully announces the suspension of emergency services at Arcola Health Centre in Arcola, SK.

The closure will take effect at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006. Residents of the area are advised to access emergency services in alternative health care locations.

Redvers Health Centre, Kipling Memorial Health Centre, St. Joseph's Hospital of Estevan and Weyburn General Hospital will provide alternate emergency services.

"We're hoping the closure of emergency services at Arcola Health Centre will be a short-term measure," says Marga Cugnet, Vice President of Primary and Integrated Care for Sun Country Health Region.

The closure is due to the departure of one of two doctors serving the area.

A new physician recruited to start in May to work with Dr. Van Zyl in Arcola/Carlyle and to provide clinic services in Carlyle was unable to provide documentation to the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons with regard to his professional qualifications.

Dr. Anne-Marie Van Zyl will continue to provide regular clinic services in her office in Arcola and will attend to inpatients only.

Marga says Sun Country Health Region continues to work with physicians and the communities to find physicians to provide temporary and permanent services for Carlyle/Arcola residents.

Residents are advised to telephone the Carlyle Medical Clinic, at 453-6795 (intermittent services) or the Arcola Medical Clinic at 455-2288 (Monday-Friday) to make an appointment with a doctor.
