Ultrasound services to resume

St. Joseph’s Hospital of Estevan and Sun Country Health Region (SCHR) are pleased to announce the resumption of ultrasound services at St. Joseph’s in the near future.

The Executive Director of St. Joseph’s Hospital says the return of ultrasound service to Estevan is fantastic news.

“It’s a giant step forward in providing care to the residents of our community,” says Normand Poirier.

“I want to thank Mayor St. Onge, the City and RM of Estevan, as well as Marga Cugnet and Sun Country Health Region for all of their hard work. They deserve all the credit for bringing ultrasound service to back to Estevan,” he says.

“We are very pleased that residents will be able to access these services once again in St. Joseph’s,” says Marga Cugnet, Interim CEO, SCHR.

“This puts patients first when we can provide more services close to home. It respects the spirit of the Patient First Review.”

St. Joseph’s Hospital will be exploring fundraising options for purchase of the ultrasound machine while SCHR will provide the additional annual operating costs.

Negotiations are being finalized with Radiology Associates of Regina to provide the specialized staffing needed to operate the service two days a week.

Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool used in the diagnosis of kidney stones, gall bladder problems, liver abnormalities, renal function, aortic aneurysms, or uterine and ovarian abnormalities. Other ultrasound examinations include obstetrical for assessment of fetal viability and routine screening.

Services will resume when the ultrasound equipment is in place.
