Brrr. It's cold
Cold winter weather can play havoc with the skin on your face. Continue to use sunscreen with SPF 15 or greater. Drink lots of water. Layer your clothing. Use heavier moisturizer. -
Wind chill
The wind chill factor is the method used by weather forecasters to tell us how much colder the wind makes unprotected skin feel. The wind doesn't actually change the temperature outside. It changes the temperature we feel on our skin. -
Drink healthy beverages
Many children and teens are drinking more pop and other sugary drinks instead of milk. Choose healthy beverages when you are thirsty, like water, milk or 100% fruit juice. -
Lower the sugar content
Did you know that white milk and chocolate milk have the same amount of calcium? If you prefer chocolate milk, mix it half and half with white milk to lower the sugar content. -
No milk?
Don’t like milk? Other foods and drinks that contain calcium include cheese, yogurt and fortified soy or rice beverages. -
Other calcium sources
Did you know that canned salmon with bones, boiled spinach and roasted almonds also contain calcium to help build strong bones and teeth? -
Too much caffeine
Energy drinks are not recommended for children. These drinks contain caffeine and can temporarily increase heart rate, breathing and blood pressure. -
Restless child
If a food or drink has caffeine and sugar, it would likely be the caffeine instead of the sugar that will make a child restless. -
Play
Both parents should read to their child. Participate in the school classroom or assist with a field trip to encourage an interest in learning.
