Speech and Language Pathology

Speech and Language Pathology is the rehabilitative or corrective treatment of physical and/or cognitive deficits/disorders resulting in difficulty with communication. This program deals with adults who have problems in expressive and receptive communication. The speech language pathologist is an integral member of the swallowing assessment team as well.

Children who require Speech and Language therapy will be seen by the Pediatric Speech and Language Pathologist.

Adults who require Speech and Language Pathology Services will be seen by the Adult Speech and Language Pathologist.

Sun Country Health Region offers Speech Language Pathology Services for adults with a variety of speech, voice, language, cognitive-linguistic, and/or swallowing disorders.

With the adult population, this may include individuals who have suffered a stroke, head injury, or who have progressive degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease. The Speech Language Pathologist may also work with people who have had head and neck surgery, including a laryngectomy.
Speech language pathology services are provided to adults in acute and long term care facilities throughout Sun Country Health Region, as well as on an outpatient basis.
