Work on three new health care facilities

Sun Country Health Region is moving quickly to complete the planning and design work needed to allow construction to begin on three new health care facilities in the Region.
The facilities, in Redvers, Kipling and Radville, were among 13 new, long term care/integrated health facilities selected for replacement in a February announcement from Health Minister Don McMorris.
"We awarded the consultancy services in April and the first set of exploratory meetings has been held with health foundations, building committees and staff in these three communities," says Hal Schmidt, Vice President of Finance and Corporate Services for Sun Country Health Region.
The second round of meetings began early in June, he said.
"At the same time, we are reviewing the functions and services that each of these new facilities will provide. As soon as that large task is completed, we will ask the architects to begin to prepare a conceptual design of each facility."
"That's when everyone will start to get really excited about these projects, when they begin to see what the final project might look like," says Mr. Schmidt.
The provincial government is funding the replacement of these three facilities, along with 10 other aging health facilities across Saskatchewan, with $153 million from its Ready for Growth initiative. As with other regional health facility construction projects, there is a 65 per cent - 35 per cent cost sharing between the provincial government and local communities.
"Our goal is still to see construction begin before the end of 2009," says Mr. Schmidt.
Sun Country Health Region, health foundations and local community groups have been lobbying for these projects for several years, with significant fund-raising having been completed already in some of these communities, he says.
"We want to ensure our facilities are up to date and meeting the standards that our seniors and staff deserve," he says.
