Acute and emergency services to reopen at Redvers Health Centre

The pieces will all be in place at Redvers Health Centre for early August. Sun Country Health Region and the Redvers and District Community Health Foundation and Recruitment Committee are pleased to announce the acute care wing at Redvers Health Centre and the emergency room department will re-open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

“The process has taken longer than any of us expected but we have finally set a firm date for the opening,” said Marga Cugnet, President and CEO, Sun Country Health Region. Reinstatement of the services will provide access to emergency and acute care services for local residents and should reduce demand on Moosomin and Oxbow health services.

A shortage of doctors to keep the emergency room open was the first hurdle to overcome, and then the Region experienced a shortage of Registered Nurses, says Mrs. Cugnet. Once recruitment for both professionals was satisfied, the Region provided refresher courses related to emergency services such as advanced cardiac life support and trauma care.

“This was only possible because of the many hours devoted to the project by community volunteers and Sun Country Health Region management,” says Mrs. Cugnet.

The acute wing will open with five acute care beds and two multipurpose beds for convalescent, palliative, respite and transitional use. Three doctors are practicing in the community.

“This will satisfy the community’s desire to have the acute care wing open to serve the needs of the residents of the Redvers area,” said Mrs. Cugnet. “It has been a long process but it is worth it. The Region is committed to putting Patients First and providing the best services possible.”

“We thank the community for its support and patience during this process.”

Acute care services have been closed since 2009.
