Gainsborough long term care residents return home

With bells and whistles, balloons and party horns and amid many tears and hugs, the long term care residents of Gainsborough Health Centre were welcomed back on Sept 29 and 30 to the freshly painted and sparkling facility.

They have been gone for three months after flooding in late June that required evacuation of the facility and the entire town. Long term care residents were moved when the town flooded to other, long term care facilities in Weyburn, Carlyle, Oxbow, Lampman and Carnduff. Some residents returned temporarily to their families until they moved to other facilities.

Residents, family and staff are happy to be back home. A “homecoming party” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14 with a potluck lunch at noon for residents, families and staff. Entertainment and visiting to catch up will follow.

Sun Country Health Region and Donna Davis, Community Health Services Manager of Gainsborough Health Centre, offer a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the evacuation, to the facilities who opened their doors and hearts to residents, to the staff who deployed to other facilities to assist with Gainsborough residents, to the staff who came to help give the facility a fresh look, to the residents and families for their patience and understanding during this trying time and to everyone throughout the Region for the support through this last three months.
