Kipling Integrated Health Centre going ahead

At least 100 members of the public gathered at the Kipling Community Centre on May 29 to hear the announcement that construction will begin immediately on a new Kipling Integrated Health Centre. The announcement came from Sun Country Health Region after approval had been received from the Sun Country Regional Health Authority and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health.

“This project has been a long time coming. We know the residents of Kipling and area have been anxiously awaiting an announcement and it is a great day for the Region and the community now that the time has come,” says Marga Cugnet, CEO, Sun Country Health Region.

The Kipling Integrated Health Centre will replace Willowdale Lodge and Kipling Memorial Health Centre. It will provide 33 long term care beds and 12 acute care beds, emergency services, as well as space for laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, in about 4600 square metres.

The total cost of the new facility will be $25.1 million, with the Ministry of Health funding 72.2 per cent and the community funding 27.8 per cent.

The project is a design build model through the combined efforts of Van-Mar Construction, along with Farrow and Number Ten Architects.

A sod turning ceremony is planned for June 25.

“Construction will begin immediately and we will continue to work hard to remain on budget and on schedule. We expect that residents will be able to be moved into their new homes near the end of 2014,” says Mrs. Cugnet.
