Repairs to Estevan Regional Nursing Home

A $190,000 project to repair the roof of the Estevan Regional Nursing Home is the latest of $2.8 million in improvements to Sun Country Health Region (SCHR) facilities made possible by the provincial government’s Ready for Growth infrastructure development initiative.

“SCHR has a responsibility to protect the health of our residents and staff by providing for the proper maintenance at ERNH,” says Pamela Haupstein, Interim Vice President, Finance and Corporate Services for SCHR.

“Even though there will come a day when a new facility is needed, and fund-raising to that end has begun in the community, we will need to properly maintain the existing building for many years to come,” says Mrs. Haupstein.

“The people of this area worked to get Estevan Regional Nursing Home built many years ago,” says Doreen Eagles, MLA for Estevan, speaking on behalf of Health Minister Don McMorris.

“Provincial funding for infrastructure will help keep the residents of this home safe and secure.  A key priority for our government is improving the quality of health services and access to care, focusing on the patient,” she says.

Part of the cost of the roof repairs comes from Ready for Growth funding announced in 2008.  Other projects made possible by the funding are:

  • Upgrades to fire safety systems in Bengough, Coronach and Galloway;
  • New ventilation, heating or cooling equipment at Estevan’s St. Joseph’s Hospital and in Carnduff;
  • Nurse call system upgrades at St. Joseph’s Hospital and in Carnduff;
  • Roof repairs in at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and in Galloway, Kipling and Radville;
  • Electrical equipment in Carnduff and Radville; and
  • Interior and exterior floor and wall repairs in Bengough, Coronach, Estevan and Redvers.
