NP to be available in Redvers Health Centre

Sun Country Health Region is pleased to announce that Nicki Ford, Nurse Practitioner (NP) from Maryfield Health Centre, will work in Redvers Health Centre on Monday of each week.

She will offer chronic disease clinics.

The clinics will provide care for people with Diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or Cardio vascular Disease (previous heart attack, high blood pressure, high cholesterol).

Nurse Practitioners are Registered Nurses who have taken extra education and training. The role of the NP at the chronic disease clinics will be:

1. Patient teaching. This helps the patient gain a better understanding and control of their disease.

2. Ordering and interpreting lab tests.

3. Writing prescriptions.

4. Diagnosing and treating complications associated with the chronic disease, for example, infections.

The NP will share information with the patient’s physician as necessary and will refer the patient to a physician if the health concern is beyond the knowledge and capabilities of the NP.

This service is being offered on a temporary basis and will be evaluated in early June to assess the community’s need for ongoing Chronic Disease Clinics.

If you have one of the chronic diseases listed and feel that you would benefit by attending this clinic, please phone the Redvers Health Centre at 452 – 3553 for an appointment.
